Job Title: Intellectual Property Counsel

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Counsel to join our team at Russell Tobin. As a key member of our legal department, you will be responsible for managing and overseeing our extensive IP portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough trademark searches and clearances for new marks to ensure brand protection.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide expert advice on intellectual property matters related to new initiatives.
  • File and manage applications for new trademarks, including the submission of specimens, to maintain a strong IP portfolio.
  • Handle USPTO office action responses and ensure timely filings to protect existing marks.
  • Advise on intellectual property strategy and prepare cease and desist letters when necessary to safeguard our clients' interests.
  • Act as a point of contact for intellectual property issues, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Coordinate with external counsel for international IP portfolio management and patent filings to ensure global brand protection.
  • Provide legal advice while managing risks in a collaborative environment, ensuring the success of our clients' business ventures.
  • Contribute to special projects and other tasks as assigned, leveraging your expertise to drive business growth.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in intellectual property law at a top-tier law firm or corporate legal department (in-house experience preferred).
  • Juris Doctor and admission to the NY State Bar.
  • Strong understanding of IP law and USPTO rules, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Practical approach to providing legal advice to business units, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
  • Strong communication, drafting, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to high-quality work and organizational integrity, with a focus on delivering exceptional results.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or French is a plus, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
