Position: Per Diem Registered Nurse
Role Summary
The Per Diem Registered Nurse plays a crucial role in the effective management and daily operations of the surgical center, adhering to established federal, state, and organizational policies. This position is responsible for supervising patient care in the operating room, preoperative, and recovery areas, ensuring a high standard of safety for patients and staff alike.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting patient admissions and performing preoperative tasks, including updating medical histories, confirming allergies, documenting vital signs, administering medications, and positioning patients on surgical stretchers.
- Executing operating room duties such as preparing sterile supplies, performing surgical antiseptic preparations, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring sterile techniques are maintained.
- Carrying out recovery responsibilities, including monitoring vital signs, assessing postoperative pain levels, and providing patients with discharge instructions.
- Maintaining a clean and safe environment by participating in the ongoing cleaning and disinfecting processes of the surgical center.
- Engaging in audits and quality improvement studies to ensure high standards of care are met.
- Keeping up with continuing education requirements as mandated by the state and the surgical center.
- Assisting in the management of inventory for medical supplies and implants.
- Collaborating with team members to ensure seamless continuity of patient care.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Education and Experience:
Must possess a current RN license in Washington and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred. A minimum of two years of experience in an operating room setting is preferred. Candidates should have the necessary skills and knowledge relevant to the role, with some on-the-job training provided.
Language Proficiency:
Fluency in English is required, with strong oral and written communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate active listening abilities and effective interpersonal skills.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform medical and scientific calculations, including percentages and data verification.
Reasoning Skills:
Ability to gather data, interpret technical instructions, and apply logical reasoning to identify and categorize information.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in various software applications, including accounting, charting, document management, Microsoft Office Suite, and medical software.
Licenses and Certifications:
Active RN License in Washington, current BLS certification, and ACLS certification within six months of hire.
Supervisory Duties:
May involve delegating tasks to Medical Assistants as appropriate.
Work Environment:
The work environment is typically indoors with a moderate noise level. Employees may be exposed to infectious diseases.
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, use hands for handling and controlling objects, reach with arms, and maintain a stationary position. Vision abilities required include near and distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
