Position Overview

Twelve is pioneering a revolutionary approach in the chemical industry, focused on combating climate change through innovative technology that transforms CO2 into vital products. Our dedicated team of scientists and engineers is committed to reshaping the future by advancing carbon transformation technologies.

We are currently seeking a seasoned Head of Mechanical Engineering to spearhead the development of our CO2 Electrolyzer technology.

This role is a full-time opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the recruitment, mentorship, and development of a top-tier mechanical engineering team specializing in CO2 electrolyzer technologies.
  • Provide strategic guidance and technical oversight for the mechanical engineering division, concentrating on CO2 electrolyzer systems and ancillary technologies.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to synchronize engineering initiatives with the company's strategic goals, ensuring optimal staffing for development projects.
  • Uphold ambitious timelines while maintaining accountability for design integrity.
  • Formulate and implement a technology roadmap that adapts to the evolving CO2 electrolyzer landscape.
  • Establish and nurture Mechanical Engineering for CO2 Electrolyzers as a Center of Excellence, which includes:
    • Enhancing best practices in Mechanical Engineering, including the appropriate application of processes, tools, and methodologies.
    • Identifying and assessing emerging technologies and trends, integrating them into our internal practices to boost performance and efficiency.
    • Fostering a culture of innovation, encouraging creative problem-solving and continuous improvement.
    • Overseeing the successful execution of multiple engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality and budget standards.
    • Ensure effective collaboration between the engineering team and project managers to define project scopes and deliverables.
    • Monitor project developments, proactively identifying risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive workplace that supports professional growth and creativity.
  • Offer guidance for career development, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations in all products and solutions, reflecting our commitment to sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with at least 10 years in a leadership role managing a complex organization.
  • Extensive experience in the design and implementation of mechanical systems in production environments.
  • Proficiency in at least four of the following areas:
    • Design of chemical electrochemical reactors (e.g., electrolyzers, batteries)
    • Design of high-pressure sealed assemblies
    • Product design involving fluid handling
    • Structural mechanical analyses and Finite Element Analyses
    • Fluid mechanics and Computational Fluid Dynamics
    • Product design from prototyping to production
    • Design for high-volume manufacturing
    • Leadership of multidisciplinary projects
    • Materials compatibility with chemical compounds
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design best practices related to part and system design.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to navigate technical uncertainty and translate strategy into actionable plans.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Adaptability and resilience in dynamic environments.
