Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our Cell Engineering Design team in Berkeley, CA. This team is responsible for designing the mechanical components and assemblies of our iron-air battery cell. The successful candidate will manage a team of engineers, coordinate build support activities, and act as a player-coach to grow and mentor a well-rounded engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage and grow a world-class team of mechanical engineers to deliver on key objectives toward advancing Form Energy's cell product development efforts.
  2. Lead the mechanical design and development of Form Energy's iron-air battery cells.
  3. Manage cell mechanical design and program risks and effectively communicate actions cross-functionally and with leadership.
  4. Partner with cross-functional teams to optimize performance, design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), cost, and reliability.
  5. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of battery, chemical, and electrical engineers to define battery cell design requirements.
Requirements
  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; with 10+ years of industry experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and mentoring direct reports.
  3. Well-developed experience designing mechanical components and assemblies composed of low-cost metal and plastic for high-volume manufacture in a hardware product development company.
  4. Expert in new product development for high-volume manufacturing.
  5. Experience implementing design for manufacturing & assembly (DFMA) principles.
  6. Experience in batteries, energy storage, or other high power products is a plus.
  7. Strong technical communication skills, especially with external parties and across internal functional teams.
