The MasTec Renewables Group is a segment of the MasTec Clean Energy & Infrastructure division, a robust business unit generating $4 billion in annual revenue, providing construction services for a variety of facilities including industrial plants, power generation sites, and renewable energy installations.
Position Overview:
The Safety Manager is responsible for the planning, organization, and execution of the company’s Safety Program at construction sites, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and corporate health, safety, and environmental regulations. This role includes travel across the United States, focusing on sustainability initiatives and supporting teams in the development of solar and wind infrastructure. Additional benefits include designated weekly subsistence to assist with living expenses and relocation support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all facets of the safety program on complex construction projects.
- Conduct safety inspections to identify violations and initiate Stop Work Authority when necessary.
- Guide onsite construction personnel on corrective actions for safety violations to eliminate hazards and reduce future risks.
- Foster a culture of safety by engaging management and craft workers, leading to exceptional safety performance.
- Participate in the jobsite R4 Safety Committee and monitor outcomes for management presentations.
- Facilitate site safety committee meetings and review R4 documentation for management updates.
- Attend various safety meetings and serve as a liaison between company and client management regarding safety issues.
- Review and input incident reports and maintain site safety documentation.
- Compile and present leading indicator statistics to project leadership.
- Ensure jobsite first aid and emergency response supplies are adequately maintained.
- Administer drug and alcohol testing on site.
- Spend a significant portion of time in the field overseeing job sites.
- Identify workplace safety hazards and consult with site management on corrective actions.
- Implement the Zero Injury System of safety excellence across projects.
- Understand and enforce safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with environmental permitting regulations.
- Lead site inspections and compile documentation in a timely manner.
- Assist in developing and implementing a Hazard Communication Program in accordance with regulations.
- Present safety training to site employees as needed.
- Participate in emergency response efforts.
- Collaborate with management to create and implement job site safety plans.
- Work with the Safety Department on program development, training needs, and injury management.
- Oversee the injury management program and establish relationships with local healthcare providers.
- Coordinate and deliver safety training on various topics as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Safety Manager I:
- 2-3 years of construction safety experience with proven leadership capabilities.
Safety Manager II:
- Preferred Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
- CHST or other BCSP certification preferred.
- 3-5 years of construction safety management experience.
Safety Manager III:
- Preferred Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
- CHST or higher BCSP certification required within six months of hire.
- 5+ years of construction safety management experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Commitment to health and safety principles and Zero Injury standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Knowledge of MSHA/OSHA regulations and hazard recognition.
- CPR/First Aid Instructor certification preferred.
- Aim for professional certification (CHST, CMSP, etc.) within six months of hire.
Working Environment:
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and high places.
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations.
- Typically loud noise levels in the work environment.
