Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team at Amergis. As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will work under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist to provide occupational therapy services to students in a school setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide interventions to impact students' functional abilities, including muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, written and verbal communication skills, self-care ability, and work capacity.
  • Understand the role of therapy in the context of students' age, total needs perspective, and ability.
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment of students' school environment for equipment needs and the reduction of barriers or safety risks.
  • Teach new skills or retrain students in once-familiar daily activities that have become difficult or unfamiliar due to illness or injury.
  • Consistently report to the Occupational Therapist regarding student progress and status to promote modification of treatment programs and any adverse outcomes.
  • Maintain timely, legible, and efficient student documentation.
  • Notes remain concise, pertinent, and meet district and practice documentation standards.
  • Instruct students in the use of various types of adaptive equipment and/or splints to improve function.
  • Ensure equipment is in good working order.
  • May utilize physical agents, including heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound, and massage.
  • Identify students' needs for other supportive services and notify the Occupational Therapist.
  • Report students' reactions to treatment or changes in condition to the physician and Occupational Therapist.
  • Prepare and submit clinical progress-summaries based on progress toward goals and responses to treatment.
  • Participate in case conferences, meetings, and in-service education.
  • Comply with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding professional standards and practice standards.
Requirements
  • Current certification or licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of practice.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy Assistant required.
  • One (1) year of experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant preferred.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
