Vision Care Specialist

This role offers a competitive sign-on bonus of $50,000.
Work schedule includes one Saturday each month.
Job Summary:
The primary responsibility is to assess patients experiencing a wide array of visual challenges, identify visual ailments, and recommend appropriate treatments as per licensing and accreditation.
Additionally, the role involves referring patients to other relevant Kaiser Permanente specialists for further assessment and care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive examinations for patients with various visual issues utilizing a complete range of optometric tools and methodologies.
- Identify visual diseases, disorders, and deficiencies, prescribing treatments in accordance with the regulations of the State of Maryland, District, or Commonwealth.
- Fit and prescribe contact lenses.
- Evaluate the visual needs of partially sighted individuals.
- Recommend low-vision aids, including telescopic and microscopic lenses, magnifiers, and other optical devices to assist low-vision patients.
- Utilize diagnostic pharmaceutical agents under physician standing orders to identify and diagnose ocular conditions.
- Employ examination techniques to uncover ocular indicators of systemic diseases and medication effects.
- Refer patients to other Kaiser Permanente specialists as necessary for additional evaluation and treatment.
- Engage in departmental and educational meetings, including peer review activities within the department and medical facility.
- Regularly consult with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology regarding patient care matters.
- Contribute to the development of eye care educational programs for medical center staff and patient seminars.
- In collaboration with an ophthalmologist, assess and manage anterior segment disorders under physician standing orders.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience: Not applicable.
Education: Graduation from an accredited Optometry program.
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Valid Optometrist License (Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia) required.
Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory at the time of hire.
National Provider Identifier is required upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of two years of experience in a collaborative healthcare setting is preferred, or successful completion of an accredited residency program in Optometry.

Shift: Daytime hours.
Workdays: Monday through Saturday.
Working Hours: 08:30 AM to 05:00 PM.
