Animal Care Coordinator

Job Title:
Veterinary Assistant
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work with animals that may pose a physical risk. Ensuring animal welfare and safety is a top priority at all times. All animal safety incidents must be reported promptly to the appropriate manager.
The Animal Care Technician will be required to wear scrub suits provided by the facility and laundered on-site. Locker and shower rooms are available for staff use.
Requirements:
At least 6 months of experience caring for animals in a professional setting such as a research facility, veterinary hospital, zoo, breeding facility, or pet store.
Knowledge of animal breeding principles and the ability to apply principles and requirements of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and the US Animal Welfare Act.
Able to provide humane housing conditions, gentle handling, and secure restraint of animals. Knowledge of normal animal behavior and ethical care obligations.
Knowledge of sanitation practices and the ability to operate equipment including autoclaves, cage-washers, floor scrubbers, lift carts, bedding dispensers, biosafety cabinets, water-pouch fillers, and fume hoods.
Work Schedule:
8-hour daily work schedule within the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a maximum of 40 hours per week and 5 days per week.
