Position Overview:

The role of the International Accountant is crucial in supporting the accounting division of Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in its expanding global operations. This position is responsible for delivering exceptional accounting, reporting, and operational assistance to both internal and external stakeholders across various international jurisdictions.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial closing processes for multiple international entities, ensuring precise preparation and posting of journal entries in compliance with accounting standards.
  • Generate and record intricate intercompany chargeback calculation journal entries based on transfer pricing agreements, alongside accrual journal entries for designated accounts.
  • Manage the monthly and bi-weekly payroll cycles for several international entities, ensuring accurate journal entry preparation, coordinating new hire setups, and processing employee departures in collaboration with external payroll partners to meet local compliance requirements.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of international corporate income tax and VAT returns, working with external accounting and tax partners to adhere to local regulations.
  • Review and process vendor and contractor invoices, reconciling vendor accounts and payments.
  • Prepare quarterly forecasts for bank financing and initiate cash transfers to international branches.
  • Conduct analysis of exchange rates for financial planning, establishing procedures for foreign currency revaluation and adjustments.
  • Reconcile and analyze assigned accounts, reviewing the accuracy and completeness of others' work.
  • Prepare and assist in the compilation of internal and external financial statements for various countries, performing variance analysis and related research.
  • Support annual external international audits and periodic internal audits, including preparation of PBC schedules and reviewing work papers.
  • Assist in fund disbursement processes and financial monitoring activities while identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Proactively identify, analyze, and resolve issues, including enhancements to information systems and reports.
  • Contribute to the development, documentation, and enforcement of published policies and procedures.
  • Interpret and apply US GAAP and International GAAP accounting control measures in daily operations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external clients, promoting continuous process improvement in all responsibilities.
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects as necessary.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required, with an MBA or CPA preferred. Candidates should possess at least 8 years of practical international accounting experience and a foundational understanding of payroll accounting. A minimum of 3 years of experience working with SAP or other ERP FI accounting systems (GL, AP, AR) is essential.


Skills and Attributes:
  • In-depth understanding of financial concepts and project accounting practices.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to EPRI's business model and operations.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and familiarity with International GAAP differences, with the capability to independently research and interpret accounting guidelines.
  • Proficiency in the complete Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and Adobe PDF.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with a readiness to engage in an international business environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and perform well under pressure.
  • Independent, hands-on approach with minimal supervision required to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with proficiency in identifying root causes and addressing process obstacles.
  • High motivation for performance, reliability, flexibility, and strong teamwork capabilities.

The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This role is eligible for participation in EPRI's annual incentive program and standard employee benefit programs, which include medical, dental, vision, 401k, and paid family leave, among others.
