Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead RN duties, collaborating with the manager to develop and implement effective staffing schedules and work assignments.
- Assess and manage workloads, making special assignments during peak and slow periods to ensure optimal patient care.
- Coordinate with other clinical teams to cover staff shortages and process provider schedule changes as delegated by the manager.
- Handle difficult and problematic work situations, resolving member issues and escalating to management as needed.
- Provide guidance and support to other staff members, answering questions, orienting new staff, and identifying training needs.
- Perform special projects as assigned by the manager, focusing on implementing new workflows, removing barriers, and communicating initiatives.
- Provide regular feedback to the manager on staff performance, work habits, and barriers to efficient, high-quality work.
- Contribute to the development and revision of department policies and procedures.
- Participate in day-to-day operational issues that may impact hiring, evaluation, and termination of staff decisions.
- Additional Regular RN Duties:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for the peritoneal dialysis patient, including administering medications, ensuring narcotics and drug supplies, and initiating and monitoring IV therapy and peritoneal dialysis exchanges.
- Coordinate patient teaching plans for areas such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, anticoagulant therapy, therapeutic diet instruction, weight control, and peritoneal dialysis at home.
- Triage walk-in patients as needed or assigned.
- Supervise patient flow and direct other clinical support staff in the delivery of patient care within the Health Care Team.
- Act as a patient advocate and resolve problems within the HCT.
- Perform other related duties as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum six (6) months experience providing peritoneal dialysis self-care training.
- Minimum one (1) year of current experience in a HMO or ambulatory setting.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in nursing care of the patient on home maintenance peritoneal dialysis or in nursing care of the end-stage renal patient.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required before hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.
- Registered Nurse License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire
OR
- Compact License: Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire
- Registered Nurse License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire
- Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
Additional Requirements:
- Must complete all Fundamental and assigned Specialty related competencies by the end of the probationary period and annually thereafter.
- Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software required.
- Experience in IV Therapy is required.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license and able to complete a home assessment of patient's environment.
