Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse Lead

To coordinate and monitor care of patients in the assigned clinical area, the Lead Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities- Lead RN Duties: Assist the manager with making monthly staffing schedules and day-to-day work assignments to department dialysis staff, assess workloads, and make special assignments during peak and slow periods.
- Staffing and Scheduling: Call in staff to meet minimum staffing requirements, make managers aware of requests for overtime, coordinate with other clinical teams to cover staff shortages, and process provider schedule changes when delegated by the manager.
- Problem-Solving and Conflict Resolution: Handle difficult and problematic work situations, including resolving member issues and escalating to management as needed.
- Training and Development: Serve as a resource for other staff members by answering questions, orienting new staff, and identifying staff needs for training, providing in-service training as needed.
- Special Projects: Perform special projects as assigned by the manager, including implementing new workflows and processes, removing barriers, communicating initiatives, researching, or identifying trends with patient-related data.
- Performance Feedback and Development: Routinely provide feedback to the manager for staff performance, work habits, and barriers to efficient, high-quality work, assist with the development and revision of department policies and procedures, and provide input into day-to-day operational issues that may support the hiring, evaluation, and termination of staff decisions.
- Additional RN Duties: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate a plan of care for the peritoneal dialysis patient, including administering oral and injecting medications, ensuring narcotics and drug supplies are available, initiating and monitoring IV therapy, initiating and monitoring Peritoneal Dialysis Exchanges, providing ongoing assurance of functional emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies, documenting emergency situations, setting up, performing, and/or assisting with procedures as appropriate, and ensuring safety measures are instituted for all compromised patients receiving care.
- Patient Education and Coordination: Coordinate, implement, and evaluate patient teaching plans for areas of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, anticoagulant therapy, therapeutic diet instruction, weight control, peritoneal dialysis at home, and other areas as designated, triage walk-in patients as needed or assigned, supervise patient flow, direct other clinical support staff in the delivery of patient care within the Health Care Team, act as a patient advocate, and resolve problems within the HCT.
Requirements: Minimum six (6) months experience providing peritoneal dialysis self-care training, minimum one (1) year of current experience in an HMO or ambulatory setting, minimum one (1) year experience in nursing care of the patient on home maintenance peritoneal dialysis or in nursing care of the end-stage renal patient, Bachelor's degree in nursing, Registered Nurse License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire, Registered Nurse License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire, or Compact License: Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire, Registered Nurse License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire, Basic Life Support from American Heart Association, and proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.

Work Environment: Woodlawn Medical Center, 40 hours per week, Day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM
