Job Summary

As a skilled Inpatient Coder II, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and efficient coding of medical records for inpatient services. This position requires a strong understanding of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding conventions, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities
  • Apply extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and diagnostic and procedural terminology to determine the appropriate assignment of diagnosis and procedure codes for all types of IP accounts.
  • Analyze medical records using the Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS), interpret documentation, and assign proper International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Edition, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) diagnoses and ICD-10-Procedural Classification System (PCS) operative procedure codes utilizing designated software, coding manuals, and other reference material.
  • Review DRG assigned to each record, enter coded/abstracted information into software, analyze DRG groupings, and observe for appropriate DRG assignment.
  • Code all types of cases, including the most complex.
  • Adhere to all department coding procedures, policies, guidelines, and quality standards.
  • Abide by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association/American Association of Procedural Coders and adhere to official coding guidelines.
  • Meet revenue cycle goals (Key Performance Indicators).
  • Manage the coding and IP edit work queues.
  • Complete reviews of denials and combined accounts.
Requirements
  • Experience: 2-5 years of Level 1 acute care inpatient coding experience.
  • Licensure: CPC or CCS certification required.
  • Skills: Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding conventions, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, federal regulations and policies pertaining to documentation and billing.
  • Solid understanding of CPT and HCPCS coding preferred.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, as this is a high-volume fast-paced position.
