The Advanced Energy Technologies (AET) Directorate at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral appointee to contribute to the development of bipolar membranes (BPMs) for electrochemical carbon dioxide separations. The successful candidate will be part of the Applied Materials Division (AMD) within AET and will collaborate with researchers who specialize in machine learning, molecular simulations, and electrochemical device testing.

Job Summary

We are looking for a talented individual with expertise in membrane fabrication and characterization to join our team as a Postdoctoral Appointee. The primary responsibility of this position will be to design, fabricate, and test BPMs using commercially available anion and cation exchange membranes and ionomers or in-house synthesized ionomer materials.

About the Role

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science and engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, and/or closely related discipline. In addition, they should possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to work collaboratively with teams and individuals across various divisions, laboratories, and companies.

  • Fabricate and test bipolar membranes (BPMs) using various techniques and equipment
  • Measure the electrochemical properties of ionomer membranes, including ionic conductivity, ion-exchange capacity, and water uptake
  • Characterize reverse bias and forward bias polarization behavior of BPM materials
  • Collaborate with researchers to develop new methods for fabricating membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs)

This is a full-time, long-term (fixed term) position that offers a competitive salary. The estimated salary for this role is $**65,000 - $80,000 per year**, depending on experience and qualifications. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
