Employees, including the individual in this role, may divide their time between both organizations without impacting salary or benefits.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Climate Justice Education Coordinator will be responsible for crafting and executing a climate justice educational curriculum tailored for CASA members, organizers, and other stakeholders in both Spanish and English. This role involves collaboration with the Director of Community Leadership and the Chief of Organizing to develop general training materials as well as campaign-specific educational resources that support climate justice initiatives, utilizing various formats including in-person sessions, printed materials, and digital platforms. All educational content must align with CASA's mission, vision, and values, actively reflecting our commitment to antiracism and gender equity. The Coordinator may also engage in coalition and campaign efforts related to climate justice as part of a multidisciplinary team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities may encompass, but are not limited to, the following tasks, which will be discussed and prioritized with the supervisor and documented in individual and program annual work plans:
- Design and sustain a foundational climate justice training curriculum employing popular education techniques, while facilitating ongoing train-the-trainer sessions to ensure all member activists, organizers, staff, and board members share a unified understanding of climate justice and its connection to CASA's mission, vision, and values.
- Create climate justice curricula and training resources to bolster CASA's local, state, and national climate justice initiatives.
- Produce supplementary informational materials to support climate justice campaigns in collaboration with organizing, communications, and policy teams.
- Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team advancing CASA's climate justice efforts, including collaboration with external coalitions, funders, researchers, and other partners.
- Collaborate with the data and evaluation team to develop assessment tools that measure the intended outcomes and impact of all training programs.
- Assist the Director of Community Leadership in the creation and execution of broader political education and campaign materials to support ongoing or new organizing initiatives and priority issues.
- Monitor, analyze, and synthesize results from the leadership development program.
- Support logistics and outreach for both internal and external training sessions, including member training, train-the-trainer workshops, partner gatherings, and online or video training.
- Ensure that program and grant deliverables are collected and reported accurately and promptly.
- Supervise staff, volunteers, and consultants, ensuring professional development opportunities are available and that all HR policies are adhered to.
- Foster and maintain relationships with key national, state, and local partners.
- And perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor relevant to the position.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
- At least two years of experience in climate justice organizing, popular education, or related progressive movement work.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Education, or a related field focusing on program or curriculum design is preferred.
- A valid US driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- A strong passion for Climate or Environmental Justice.
- A deep commitment to Antiracism and Gender Equity.
- Familiarity with educational theory and curriculum development.
- Experience in facilitating both in-person and digital training sessions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish are required; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with individuals encountered during assigned duties.
- Highly organized with the capacity to manage multiple ongoing projects.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Willingness to travel regularly to support CASA teams in various states and occasionally to assist external partners.
- A passion for progressive, pro-immigrant ideals, characterized by integrity, a positive attitude, mission-driven focus, and self-direction.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the organizing, policy, and social justice landscape.
- Cultural agility and experience in applying an anti-oppressive framework to work.
- Experience in planning large-scale events is an advantage.
