Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing instructional support to teachers and students in special education settings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education and experience in coaching teachers to improve instructional practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and facilitate professional learning opportunities for teachers to improve instructional practices in special education.
  • Model effective teaching strategies and observe program implementation to provide feedback and coaching to teachers.
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan for specific student learning outcomes based on assessed needs and use of data to determine each student's current knowledge and skill level.
  • Meet regularly with teachers, other instructional coaches, and administrators to review data and make instructional decisions.
  • Support teachers in writing and maintaining practical, meaningful, and effective IEP goals and collaborate with Special Education Supervisors to review IEPs and support teachers' attainment of consistent compliance indicators.
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments.
  • Observe, coach, and model instructional strategies for teachers and monitor future implementation of evidence and research-based strategies.
  • Maintain documentation of teacher communication.
  • Be a positive role model for students and staff.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Master's degree, preferred.
  • Valid Texas Special Education Certification, required.
  • Valid Texas Core Content Certification, preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of SPED teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of specialized curriculum and instruction.
  • Knowledge of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal-setting process and implementation.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage moderate to severe behavior.
  • Knowledge of common learning characteristics of students with autism, intellectual disabilities, and emotional disabilities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to be flexible in meeting the needs of students and staff. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with teachers, administrators, and other staff members.

This position requires the ability to work in a variety of settings, including classrooms, meetings, and professional development sessions. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.

This position requires the ability to work with students and staff who have a range of abilities and needs. The ideal candidate will have strong patience and understanding and be able to adapt to changing circumstances.
