Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Certified Nursing Assistant to join our team at the Town of Greenwich, CT. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to our residents, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer personal care to residents, including bathing, personal hygiene, toileting, feeding, dressing, mouth care, nail care, hair care, and foot care.
  • Provide rehabilitative nursing services, such as ambulation, range of motion, and reality orientation, in accordance with the care plan developed for the resident.
  • Assure that residents assigned have been provided with their sensory and safety apparatus, such as eye glasses, hearing aids, safety bars, canes, etc.
  • Receive and give report to the Charge Nurse on patients at the beginning and end of each shift, reporting changes accurately and promptly.
  • Make suggestions for nursing care plans based on observations of the resident and their response to care provided.
  • Support facility policies and procedures at all times.
  • Transfer residents from one surface to another, taking care to protect the resident from injury, and employ proper body mechanics to prevent self-injury.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly resident unit, caring for personal belongings and keeping bedside stands and closets neatly arranged.
  • Promptly and courteously answer call bells, responding to the residents' needs and desires, and referring issues to the Nurse in charge.
  • Promptly inform the Nurse in charge of resident care problems, changes in conditions, accidents or injuries to a resident, lost items, or unit problems.
  • Change bed linens in accordance with facility policies, and whenever needed, making the beds of all residents assigned during the morning hours.
  • Pass assigned nourishments, refill water pitchers in accordance with policies, and offer fluids to residents throughout the shift.
  • Pass dietary trays at mealtimes, escort residents to the dining room, assist with applying bibs as needed, and assist residents to eat their meals or feed residents as needed.
  • Note and record intake and output of residents as determined by assignment, orient new residents and families to the unit environment, and assure that call bells are within residents' reach when in bed/rooms.
  • Provide tub baths, C-tub baths, and showers as directed, and record charting on the COGNE with accuracy.
  • Follow safety and infection control principles at all times, reporting safety or infection control hazards to the Nurse in charge, and attend at least 12 hours of mandated education programs yearly.
  • Utilize safety restraint procedures only in accordance with State and Federal guidelines following assignment, policy, and procedures strictly, and report problems promptly.
  • Weigh residents using standing, chair, ramp, sling, and tub scales, take temperature readings, and record findings.
  • Transport residents as directed to designated outside locations.
  • Provide post-mortem care.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Certification as a Nursing Assistant in Connecticut from an approved institute in long-term care settings, plus current Federal Registry registration in accordance with OBRA regulations.
  • Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in the provision of healthcare is preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics, ability to demonstrate the use of proper body mechanics in lifting, transferring, and pivoting.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations as they pertain to nursing assistants' role and standards of care.
  • Knowledge of cognitive disorders and techniques for working with people afflicted with them.
  • Knowledge of infection control and safety principles in long-term care.
  • Ability to operate all equipment utilized by the class, such as stethoscopes, electric and manual beds, stretchers, geri-chairs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.
  • Physical ability to perform the functions of the class.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English at a competency level that enables one to follow their assignment, effectively pass on information, and to comply with the first aid instructions on Material Safety Data Sheets.
