Funeral Attendant Job Description

At Service Corporation International, we're dedicated to celebrating lives and supporting our associates. As a Funeral Attendant, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our services run smoothly and as planned.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare caskets and deceased individuals for visitation or funeral services, including dressing and transporting the casket.
  • Set up and clean rooms for various services, including arranging chairs, tables, icons, and other memorabilia.
  • Greet visitors, provide programs, and answer questions about funeral services.
  • May serve as a pallbearer or drive families to the cemetery site.
  • After services, remove, clean, and store company property, as well as package and deliver family mementos and flowers.
Office Assistance:
  • Answer phones, screen calls, and take initial information.
  • Notify staff members when appointments arrive and escort guests to the appropriate room.
  • Maintain the reception area and refreshments, including making coffee, disposing of trash, and replenishing supplies.
  • Review documents for accuracy and enter data into proprietary systems.
  • Receive deliveries and perform mailroom tasks, such as making copies and scanning documents.
Driver and Vehicle Maintenance:
  • Transport documents, family mementos, flowers, and other items safely to their destinations.
  • May transport the deceased to the funeral home.
  • Clean and maintain vehicles to ensure they're presentable.
  • Fuel vehicles as needed, following safety guidelines and expenditure processes.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • No prior work experience required, but funeral industry experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to follow instructions given over the phone or in person.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and type.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to work with kindness and compassion for the deceased and their families.
  • Ability to maintain composure in challenging situations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with colleagues to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 200 pounds.
