Respiratory Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Care Practitioner to join our team at Northwell Health. As a key member of our respiratory therapy team, you will be responsible for administering respiratory therapy as prescribed by a physician, preparing and maintaining respiratory equipment, and guiding and assisting new Respiratory Therapy employees.
Key Responsibilities- Initiate, monitor, and adjust patients' therapy based on physicians' orders and established guidelines for mechanical ventilation techniques.
- Monitor and administer oxygen and breathing devices to patients, including cannulas, croupettes, face masks, humidifiers, incentive spirometers, and nebulizers.
- Identify contraindications and patient responses to treatment and document in patient medical charts.
- Transport medical gases to patient floors and specialty areas, and set up appropriate gauge or regulator for tank to function.
- Ensure proper functioning and utilization of Respiratory Therapy equipment in use by patients.
- Respond to emergency calls and take responsibility for proper resuscitation, including cardiac massage, intubation, and extubation.
- Accompany transport team on inter-hospital transports with patients, as directed, and perform ventilatory assistance.
- Perform nasal and tracheal suctioning as required, and monitor and record PaO2 in infants on transcutaneous oxygen monitors.
- Assist in disassembling, cleaning, disinfecting, reassembling, and storing of equipment, and perform routine preventive maintenance activities and/or minor equipment repairs.
- Record daily usage of all Respiratory Therapy equipment for department records.
- Provide guidance and assistance to new Respiratory Therapy employees and students, and create individual schedules for daily workload as assigned by supervisor.
- Review and record the condition of patients receiving therapy and report to supervisor and/or relief personnel.
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Successful completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, required.
- Licensed as Respiratory Therapist in the State of New York, required.
- Basic (or Advanced Cardiovascular) Life Support certification, required when hired on/after 05/01/19.
