Position Overview:

As the Senior Transportation Operations Manager, your key responsibility will be to deliver daily guidance and assistance to Supervisors as they support Clerical Staff and Drivers in achieving operational goals. The Senior Transportation Operations Manager is tasked with effectively communicating job expectations, ensuring adequate training, and upholding high standards of accountability and follow-through with their supervisory team. Each Senior Manager is directly accountable for overseeing departmental efficiency, customer satisfaction, quality assurance, safety protocols, scheduling, sanitation, payroll management, team meetings, and additional departmental activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates and supports all safety program requirements, ensuring compliance with DOT & FMSCA regulations while fostering a respectful work environment for all employees.
  • Promotes continuous improvement in all safety-related functions within transportation.
  • Provides day-to-day support to Supervisors through coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Monitors all direct report Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Maintains consistent accountability with all key personnel.
  • Takes initiative in enhancing departmental morale and creating a positive work atmosphere.
  • Ensures proper scheduling to meet all departmental requirements.
  • Guarantees that all reporting Supervisors engage in one-on-one coaching sessions with their direct reports.
  • Proactively manages the accuracy of all required business reports for Company Drivers.
  • Implements measures to maintain a clean and organized work environment at all times.
  • Communicates essential information, such as performance updates, to all department members and leadership.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality enhancement by initiating relevant projects.
  • Ensures adherence to regulatory requirements from local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Oversees and drives the daily performance of your team through effective leadership and engagement with all associates.
  • Coaches a team of highly motivated associates, providing daily performance feedback and proposing solutions.
  • Defines and communicates daily objectives, long-term strategies, and procedural changes to your team.
  • Collaborates with peers on personnel development and building cross-functional teams.
  • Exhibits flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Works with suppliers, 3PL operations, transportation, and internal customers to find optimal solutions for business and company initiatives.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a transportation-related role.
  • Supervisory experience managing mid to large teams, including 5-10 salaried leaders and over 45 hourly associates.
  • Familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems, including but not limited to: Voice recognition technology (VoCollect), Employee Management systems (Dayforce/Ceridian), WIMS, email, and voicemail.

Work Schedule:

  • Sunday to Thursday
  • 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM

Work Environment:

  • Warehouse Grocery: approximately 50°F to 90°F
  • Warehouse Perishable: approximately 26°F to 60°F
  • Warehouse Freezer: approximately 0°F to -20°F

Essential Skills:

  • Safety Culture: Uphold and promote safety policies among all associates, ensuring accountability for safe practices throughout shifts.
  • Physical Abilities: May require lifting up to 75 lbs; capability to operate necessary facility equipment.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback; clearly communicate expectations and directives.
  • Team Building: Effective coaching, facilitation, presentation, and team-building skills; inclusive decision-making.
  • Project Management: Results-oriented regarding the implementation of KPIs/Metrics; willingness to engage in continuous improvement projects; adept at managing multiple deadline-driven projects.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain integrity and high standards in product handling from all perspectives.
