Position Overview
The role of the Respiratory Care Specialist is crucial in meeting patient needs and supporting the department by delivering a variety of clinical services focused on the Pulmonary Function Lab. This position emphasizes collaboration with physicians to facilitate necessary testing.
The specialist will execute patient care responsibilities independently under the guidance of the Supervisor or Lead Therapist.
Key Responsibilities:
To excel in this role, candidates must be willing to work weekends and effectively manage essential duties.
- Evaluate, observe, and communicate significant patient responses to treatments and procedures.
- Conduct routine analyses and studies as required.
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and adapt care plans based on evolving patient needs.
- Engage in patient and family education as appropriate for the role.
- Commit to personal and professional development through educational programs and workshops.
- Perform a range of clinical interventions as outlined in the department's competency checklist, assisting medical staff and researchers with respiratory-related procedures.
- Plan, implement, and assess complex pulmonary and respiratory procedures for both inpatient and outpatient populations, including FVC, FRC, DLCO, and more.
- Monitor equipment conditions and coordinate necessary repairs for all Pulmonary Function Lab apparatus.
- Complete additional work-related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
Completion of an accredited two-year respiratory therapy program is essential.
Certification as RRT or CRT by the N.B.R.C. is mandatory.
A current D.C. License is required.
RPFT or PFT credentials are preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of two years of experience in pulmonary function testing is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, and walk for extended periods in a clinical environment.
Must be capable of occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling over 100 lbs.
Regular exposure to healthcare settings may necessitate the use of personal protective equipment.
Manual dexterity is required for operating various office and clinical equipment.
