Silgan Containers is seeking a dedicated Production Operator to join our dynamic team. This role is essential in defining and assessing the skill levels of Operators, ensuring a structured process for skill level classification.

Role Overview

The skill and competency framework established applies to Operators across all tiers within the organization.

Assessment Process Summary

The initial skill level determination will be based on prior work experience and a skills evaluation conducted during the interview process. Compensation within the designated skill level will be reviewed during performance evaluations. Operators aspiring to advance to a higher level must fulfill the requisite criteria.

Assessment Levels:

  • Level 1: Conducted by the Production Supervisor and approved by the Plant Manager, Production Manager, and HR Manager.
  • Level 2: Initial evaluation by a Level 3 Operator, confirmed by the Production Supervisor, and endorsed by the Plant Manager, Production Manager, and HR Manager.
  • Level 3: Assessed by a Level 3 Operator, validated by the Production Supervisor, corroborated by a second Production Supervisor, and endorsed by the Plant Manager, Production Manager, and HR Manager.

Skill Level Requirements

Level 1 Operator:

  • Proficient in managing full press assignments (1-3 presses)
  • Effective operation of downstream machinery under standard conditions
  • Timely completion of operator logs and production of quality outputs
  • Skilled in box erecting, feeding, taping, and labeling tasks
  • Understanding of palletizing system operations
  • Maintains cleanliness in the workspace and surrounding areas
  • Willingly utilizes manual palletizing when automated systems are unavailable

Level 2 Operator:

  • Meets or surpasses all Level 1 criteria
  • Capable of operating downstream equipment under challenging conditions
  • Able to manage bulk operations at the press during standard operations

Level 3 Operator:

  • Meets or exceeds all Level 1 and 2 criteria
  • Cross-trained in various areas and prepared to provide coverage as needed
  • Serves as a mentor for new Operators, offering support beyond the initial training phase
