Position Overview:

The Veterans Center Assistant plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations of the Veterans Center. This position is dedicated to assisting military-connected students, including Active Duty, Guard, Reserves, Veterans, and their families, in navigating their educational journey.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the continuity of Veterans Center functions in the absence of the Director.
  • Monitor and assess students' academic performance and other vital indicators, providing individual and collaborative support as needed.
  • Create customized programs and informational resources to help students understand educational requirements and outcomes.
  • Educate faculty and staff about the unique needs and available resources for military-connected students.
  • Offer motivational counseling to students, ensuring clarity in their educational goals and action plans.
  • Facilitate the integration of military and academic experiences to enhance educational success.
  • Participate in scheduled work activities and programs as required.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of experience working with populations facing challenges related to disabilities, behavioral health, and trauma.
  • Previous military service or connection to the military.
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Preferred:
  • Understanding of school, VA, DoD, and community resources available to military-connected students.
  • Familiarity with MCC programs and services, with the ability to effectively communicate this information to students.
  • Awareness of military culture and its impact on students and their families.
  • Strong communication skills to empathize with military-connected students while respecting their experiences.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population, including those with disabilities.
  • Capability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.

Physical Demands:
  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and using a computer.
  • Frequent standing to greet visitors at the Center.
