About this role:

Carrier is seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineering Supervisor to lead our team of Controls Engineers. As a team leader, you will be responsible for managing and training your direct employees, verifying their work, and mentoring new hires. You will participate in regular manpower meetings with the Engineering Manager to distribute workload and discuss backlog and plan for future department needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement complete building automation systems, including specification and sizing of controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware.
  • Create sequences of operation for the control of all building systems.
  • Document the BAS design and revision control of resultant documents.
  • Configure the WebCTRL system using SiteBuilder.
  • Program control algorithms, including third-party integration using Eikon.
  • Develop graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems using Eikon and ViewBuilder.
  • Test programming and interfaces before deployment.
  • Perform functional testing (commissioning) of complex building systems such as chiller plants and large integrations.
  • Finalize documentation of the building automation system incorporating all changes made since issuance of the submittal.
  • Adhere to project requirements and company and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.
  • Provide technical support during the selling process to ensure sales representatives accurately address customer requirements and propose the best possible solutions.
  • Mentor and develop other Controls Engineers.
  • Perform software and hardware quality control (QA/QC) reviews for all direct reports.
  • Ensure deliverable dates from Project Managers are coordinated with Engineers and milestones are put in place to meet these requirements.
  • Lead, document, and participate in yearly and semi-yearly performance reviews for all Engineers.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with manager and project teams both internal and external.
  • Maintain and advise on customer and company design and programming standards, including parts and practices.
  • Adhere to safety standards, with a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
  • Interview potential candidates for open Engineering positions.
  • Adhere to ethics standards, exemplifying the Carrier code of ethics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or construction discipline with 3+ years of experience in the HVAC controls industry, or High school / GED degree with 5+ years of experience in the HVAC controls industry.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 20% of the average workweek, including air travel, overnight hotel stays, and unexpected travel when required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering or construction discipline with 5+ years of experience in the HVAC controls industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise IP networks, including layout and troubleshooting.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical and mechanical building systems.
  • Ability to design and program any project executed by Automated Logic, regardless of complexity.
  • Understanding, writing, and recommending modifications to sequences of operation for the automation of all building systems.
  • Ability to interpret plans (including architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints), specifications, and contract documents to deliver compliant but optimized designs.
  • Ability to request clarifications concisely, accurately, and effectively to technical or scope information via a formal RFI process.
  • Strong, proactive verbal and written communicator, able to translate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to provide direction and guidance to other team members and lead project teams.
  • Well-organized and able to balance multiple concurrent priorities by communicating and negotiating due dates and deliverables.
  • Ability to condense complex technical information into a comprehensive and clear set of design documents in a way that is easily understood and followed by project teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Visio (other CAD software acceptable).
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Automated Logic software, hardware, peripherals, add-ons, and services.
  • Proficient with BAS software and associated engineering tools (Automated Logic suite preferred).
  • Extensive knowledge of third-party communication protocols used in building automation (e.g. BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, N2, etc.). Able to design and troubleshoot integrations with the same.
  • Strong aptitude for problem-solving even when troubleshooting remotely.
  • Competency with Microsoft software including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
