Within the Defense Systems Group (DSG), we offer analysis-driven decision support to senior officials regarding space architectures, policy, strategy, development planning, and threat mitigation, thereby influencing the future of national security space missions. DSG's unique position allows it to directly assist major clients, including the US Space Force and U.S. Space Command, while also providing a wide array of services across the national space framework.

The Ground Systems Engineer, designated as a Senior Project Engineer - Systems Engineering, will play a pivotal role in the Space Rapid Capabilities Directorate, focusing on the development and integration of a vital ground system for the Space Rapid Capabilities Office (SpRCO). This office is dedicated to swiftly developing and deploying highly classified critical space capabilities. The Ground Systems Engineer will engage in all stages of ground system development to ensure that operationally superior space capabilities are delivered promptly. Responsibilities include providing technical support for vehicle-to-ground system integration, developing command and control services, overseeing contractor activities, and evolving system architectures to facilitate operations testing and readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with government, SETA, and contractor teams to implement a crucial ground system.
  • Support program evaluations, design, development, testing, and operational transition efforts.
  • Ensure adherence to requirements for ground system design, mission operations, prototype testing, and initial flight checks.
  • Provide mission assurance and contribute to ground architecture development in a commercial cloud setting.
  • Identify potential risks and devise mitigation strategies to achieve mission goals.
  • Work closely with the Program Manager.
  • Engage with members of the Aerospace Engineering Technical Group (ETG) to leverage their expertise on challenging issues.
  • Regularly update Senior Material Leaders and the Space SpRCO Director on project status.
  • Interface with various government agencies to enhance capabilities for the warfighter.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or a related STEM field.
  • Experience in space operations, particularly in satellite ground development.
  • A minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering or program management.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within teams.
  • Experience in a dynamic Program Office environment with a mix of government and contractor personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with experience in presenting and documenting technical information.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Possession of a current TS/SCI security clearance with SAP eligibility, necessitating U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous to have:

  • An advanced degree in a technical discipline (engineering, science, or mathematics).
  • Extensive experience in satellite operations, including ground system development and testing.
  • Experience in satellite design and integration systems engineering.
  • Experience with rapid operational systems.
  • A strong personal technical reputation and a history of technical achievements.
  • Experience in program office management.
  • Familiarity with expertise across the Aerospace Corporation, particularly in supporting customer needs.
