Position Overview

We are seeking a Security and System Software Developer to contribute to our team focused on the research, design, development, and integration of software and hardware solutions aimed at safeguarding LLNL's computing infrastructure. This role involves leveraging your software development skills and security expertise to support various technologies essential for maintaining secure operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain software systems that ensure secure access and defend against potential threats, adhering to industry best practices.
  • Manage and configure services related to centralized authentication and authorization.
  • Integrate custom software solutions into existing open-source and commercial products to enhance security measures.
  • Research, prototype, and implement advanced data and network security analysis tools.
  • Monitor operational services and address system issues and user inquiries.
  • Engage in software engineering practices, including testing, configuration management, and documentation to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities for SES.2 Level

  • Utilize extensive technical knowledge to address complex challenges across a diverse distributed environment.
  • Provide expert security consulting and conduct evaluations of proposed system designs and applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Basic experience in collaborative software development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to devise innovative solutions.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with technical teams.
  • Understanding of fundamental networking and distributed computing principles.
  • Familiarity with basic security algorithms, including encryption and hashing techniques.
  • Availability for a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications for SES.2 Level

  • Master's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • General knowledge of networking concepts and troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to prioritize and independently resolve intricate issues in a dynamic environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Perl, or Python.
  • Familiarity with data management languages and protocols like LDAP and SQL.
  • Experience with security networking technologies such as RSA SecurID, Kerberos, SSH, RADIUS, OAuth/OIDC.
  • Knowledge of F5 – BIG IP web application firewalls.
  • Understanding of applied encryption algorithms and security protocols (RSA, TLS).

Security Clearance Requirement

This position necessitates a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. Selected candidates will undergo a Federal background investigation to determine eligibility for access to classified information.
