Compensation Structure

Annual Salary Ranges:

  • SES.1: $110,700 - $142,128
  • SES.2: $132,810 - $170,556

Position Overview

We are seeking a Security and System Software Developer to be part of a dynamic team responsible for the research, design, development, maintenance, and integration of software and hardware solutions aimed at safeguarding LLNL's computing services and systems. This role involves leveraging software development skills and security expertise to support various technologies related to authentication, authorization, security information management, web application security, and identity management.

This position is based on-site and offers limited telecommuting options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain software systems that ensure secure access and protection against potential threats.
  • Manage and configure services related to centralized authentication and authorization.
  • Integrate custom software solutions into existing open-source or commercial products to enhance security capabilities.
  • Research and implement advanced data and network security analysis tools.
  • Monitor operational services and address system issues and user inquiries.
  • Utilize established software engineering practices to ensure high-quality software development, including testing and documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities for SES.2 Level

  • Utilize advanced technical expertise to resolve complex issues across a diverse distributed environment.
  • Conduct security evaluations and provide consulting on proposed system designs and applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Basic experience in collaborative software development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with technical teams.
  • Understanding of networking and distributed computing fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with security algorithms, encryption, and security principles.
  • Availability for a 24/7 on-call schedule.

Preferred Qualifications for SES.2 Level

  • Master's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • General knowledge of networking concepts and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to prioritize and independently tackle complex challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Perl, or Python.
  • Familiarity with data management languages and protocols like LDAP and SQL.
  • Experience with security networking technologies such as RSA SecurID, Kerberos, SSH, RADIUS, OAuth/OIDC.
  • Knowledge of administering web application firewalls.
  • Understanding of encryption algorithms and security protocols.
