About the Role

The Mathematics Tutor will provide individual and small group tutoring services to students at Baltimore City Community College. The successful candidate will assist students in improving their math skills and provide guidance on effective learning strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small group tutoring to students in mathematics content areas;
  • Assess the academic needs of students and develop plans for remediation;
  • Provide guidance on effective learning strategies to maximize student potential for academic progress;
  • Communicate student progress to faculty and the Tutoring Manager;
  • Maintain documentation on student remediation plans and progress;
  • Develop resources and practice materials for use in tutoring sessions;
  • Keep accurate records of tutoring sessions using designated software;
  • Attend tutor training and required meetings;
  • Complete and return reports of tutoring sessions in a timely manner;
  • Report any problems or concerns to the CAA Director immediately;
  • Follow all BCCC policies and establish credibility with students and staff.
Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to understand and respond to oral and written instructions and ideas;
  • Ability to interpret and apply discipline concepts;
  • Effective time management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with colleagues, faculty, staff, and students;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Knowledge of tutoring concepts and their applications;
  • Ability to select and implement tutoring strategies, methods, and procedures based on student needs;
  • Ability to observe and accurately assess and respond to student needs;
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office suite, advanced information technology skills, and knowledge of instructional technology.
Qualifications
  • Experience in tutoring and/or teaching at the college level;
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may also receive consideration;
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0;
  • Instructor recommendation;
  • Peer tutors must be enrolled in at least six credits.
