Position Summary:

ELS is currently seeking a Financial Analyst with a focus on accounting, incentive implementation, and taxation within our Location Strategies practice. This role presents a dynamic work environment where you will engage in multiple projects concurrently, applying analytical skills and acquiring new tools while gaining valuable consulting experience. Key responsibilities include conducting research on a wide array of topics such as financial modeling, economic incentives, New Market Tax Credits, Enterprise and Opportunity Zones, TIFs, FILOTs, real estate, industry trends, finance, workforce analytics, and demographics. You will also be tasked with preparing and visualizing this information into spreadsheets, presentations, and related formats.

The role emphasizes identifying and assessing financial savings for clients at federal, state, and local levels, preparing financial data, calculating tax and incentive benefits, and creating cost comparisons. Additional responsibilities involve reviewing and verifying project expenses for compliance with regulations and program guidelines, monitoring and tracking the progress of projects participating in programs, troubleshooting, and providing support to ensure clients successfully complete their projects. You will also deliver technical information and assistance regarding tax credits or grants, conduct program policy research and development, and monitor changes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, accounting, or related fields
  • Understanding of fundamental corporate taxation and accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly advanced skills in Excel
  • Ability to work independently on research and analytical tasks, delivering prompt and accurate results
  • High comfort level with analyzing large datasets
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Strong writing skills
  • Programming skills are advantageous

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced coursework or experience in accounting, taxation, incentives, or financial modeling
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in consulting or accounting roles (helpful but not mandatory)
  • 1-3 years of experience in economic development or related government services (helpful but not mandatory)
  • Familiarity with ESRI's GIS Suite, Census, ACS, BLS, JobsEQ, D&B, Adobe products, LoopNet, or CoStar
