POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role operates with a degree of independence, focusing on the preparation of various legal documents and system-related tasks. This position provides essential support to Loss Mitigation Specialists, which includes document management, follow-up, legal research, and direct communication with attorneys and staff. The files managed may pertain to various stages of delinquency, including loss mitigation, bankruptcy pre-charge-off, and recovery collections. The Closer is expected to adhere to departmental, investor, and legal standards while utilizing multiple systems. Compliance with management approvals and departmental protocols is essential. Additionally, the Closer will assist in workout negotiations and reviews as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the accuracy of data by auditing remittances from borrowers and attorneys, acting as a liaison with the Consumer Loan Operations Department.
  • Manage all legal agreements related to Loss Mitigation, including modification agreements, forbearance plans, and short sale agreements.
  • Review and negotiate workout options in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Utilize knowledge of default concepts and Loss Mitigation tools effectively.
  • Process customer payments and manage payment applications through Consumer Loan Operations.
  • Conduct audit checks on completed Loss Mitigation files.
  • Create and maintain reports, spreadsheets, records, and logs for management distribution.
  • Review workout accounts for loan modification changes and coordinate necessary corrections.
  • Investigate system issues and non-performing loan modifications, implementing corrections as needed.
  • Resolve complex inquiries and collaborate with legal counsel when necessary.
  • Communicate compliance issues to the management team as required.
  • Prioritize tasks to meet workload demands efficiently.
  • Document all completed tasks in the collection system and Loss Mitigation Database.
  • Successfully complete assigned projects using business applications such as CACS, Access, and Excel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the Loss Mitigation department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience in Consumer Lending or within the legal or collections sector.
  • Familiarity with collection processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management abilities.
  • Solid knowledge of personal computers and various software applications.
