Position Overview:

The Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse delivers expert nursing care to patients and their families within a high-acuity clinical setting, adhering to the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System's nursing practice framework and the ANA's Professional Practice Standards.


This role involves prescribing, delegating, and coordinating nursing interventions for patients undergoing various Radiologic procedures, including but not limited to Interventional Radiology, Neuro Interventional Radiology, CT Scans, Ultrasounds, MRIs, and General Radiology.

Care responsibilities encompass a range of interventions that support patients across all levels of care: Inpatient, Outpatient, Critical Care, Emergency Care, and Transfers.

The nurse will administer Moderate Sedation and oversee the care of Radiology patients during diverse procedures under the guidance of Interventional Radiologists.

Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams is essential to ensure safe, effective patient care delivery and to achieve optimal patient-centered outcomes.

Engagement with the Radiology team, which includes the Medical Director, attending Physicians, unit-based support staff, unit manager, unit director, LPNs, and APRNs, is crucial to provide the highest quality continuum of care.

The nurse will also be responsible for the care of patients experiencing Trauma or Stroke, including Hemodynamic Monitoring, Drip Titration, and Vent Management.



Essential Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program or diploma program. For new hires post-2012, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required within the specified timeframe as per the New Hire BSN Agreement policy.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Basic proficiency in commonly used computer applications is required.
  • Current credentials in Moderate Sedation and IV competency are necessary. If not held at the time of hire/transfer, they must be obtained within 90 days.
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification is required within six months of completing departmental orientation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in a nursing specialty area is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in Interventional Radiology, Cath Lab, Critical Care, or Emergency Room settings is preferred.
