Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Sports Site Lead to oversee game and practice locations for the YMCA of Greater San Antonio. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, parents, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage game and practice times, and referee games when needed.
  2. Ensure sites have necessary equipment before games and practices begin, and that equipment is taken down at the end of the day.
  3. Monitor and respond to all horseplay, and promote participant safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  4. Develop and maintain communication with parents, players, and coaches, and enforce all YMCA rules and policies.
  5. Keep current on all game and practice schedule changes, and maintain regular communication with the Sports Director regarding site needs, parent questions and issues, etc.
  6. Respond to all emergencies in a prompt manner, and be responsible for cleanliness of facility sites.
  7. Maintain a courteous, friendly attitude, and be a positive role model, attending all trainings and meetings relating to the position.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Understand the basic principles of sports programs such as basketball, baseball, soccer, football, and volleyball.
  • Demonstrate diplomatic interpersonal skills, and be able to establish and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with staff, YMCA members, and program participants.
  • Ability to relate to children and parents, and demonstrate courtesy and service to program participants, maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Follow YMCA policies and decisions in a supportive manner, and be able to intervene in conflict resolution.
  • A valid driver's license is required, as well as the capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.
  • Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous Communications.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in a fast-paced outdoor or indoor gymnasium environment, and requires work at off-site locations.
  • Visual acuity is required for monitoring potential hazards for children.
  • Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration, and the ability to physically intervene in situations that might compromise safety.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and judgments even when distracted by noise and activity.
  • Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds is required, as well as the ability to stand and walk for long periods at a time.
  • Employee must be able to hear, speak and understand the words of others, as well as manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils.
