Departmental Mission
The Department of Animal Sciences, rooted in the Land Grant tradition, aims to enhance the health and welfare of animals, including humans, through a combination of teaching, research, and outreach efforts.
Animal Science is a popular field of study at Rutgers, with over 450 students enrolled across five distinct options: Pre-veterinary Medicine/Research, Laboratory Animal Science, Equine Science, Production Animal Science, and Companion Animal Science. The curriculum equips students with the scientific knowledge, technical skills, and practical experience necessary for competitive entry into professional schools (such as veterinary or medical) or careers in animal science-related sectors.
