Role Description:

The Natural Language Understanding team at Siri relies on high-quality, meticulous linguistic annotations.
The NL Annotation Project Lead plays a crucial role in managing annotation initiatives with human annotators and collaborating with data scientists and machine learning engineers.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluating and guiding the development of annotation project strategies, interfaces, and protocols
  • Communicating and clarifying project guidelines and instructions for annotators
  • Acting as a liaison for feedback and inquiries from annotators to data scientists
  • Prioritizing and organizing projects to align with organizational objectives and timelines
  • Collaborating with vendors to establish long-term partnerships and ensure accurate invoicing
  • Monitoring and assessing individual annotator performance metrics (accuracy, throughput), providing constructive feedback and guidance for enhancement.

Minimum Qualifications:
Strong grasp of English language linguistics, syntax, and grammar; and their applications in Natural Language Processing.
Experience in developing, implementing, and articulating a complex ontology or taxonomy system.
Proficient in computer skills (MacOS); familiar with general office software.
Exceptional communication and documentation abilities; capable of engaging with all levels of engineers, in-house annotators, and remote/crowd workers.
Excellent project management capabilities; adept at collaborating with stakeholders to prioritize competing projects and maintain a schedule for milestones and project completions.
Extensive prior experience in linguistic annotation; tasks may have included named entity recognition, part of speech tagging, constituency parsing, dependency parsing, or application-specific natural language parsing.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Linguistics or a related field, with 2+ years of experience as a linguistic annotator.
Experience as a linguistic annotation project/team coordinator is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:
At Apple, base pay is one component of our comprehensive compensation package and is determined within a range.
This offers the potential for growth as you develop within your role.
The base pay range for this position is between $117,832 and $205,500 annually, and your base pay will be influenced by your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
Employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
