Medical Laboratory Support Specialist

This role provides critical support to the hospital pathology lab and pathologists. Key responsibilities include receiving and processing specimens, entering patient and specimen information into the laboratory information system, and preparing specimens for courier shipments. Additional duties may include assisting with procedures such as rapid assessments or frozen sections, maintaining laboratory equipment and reagents, and performing light administrative tasks as requested by the pathologist.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and update the pathologist's schedule each day
- Pick up specimens from surgery or other hospital department locations for delivery to pathology
- Assess and accession cytology and histology specimens
- Perform data entry and scanning of requisition images
- Maintain equipment and reagent supplies
- Assist with hospital procedures, including fine needle aspirations, frozen section preparations, and bone marrow procedures
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate or bachelor's degree in laboratory science preferred
- Competency with computers and MS Office programs
- Ability to maintain accuracy and establish priorities
- Laboratory experience preferred
