The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Corrections operates within a correctional institution, focusing on delivering essential healthcare services and coordination for individuals in custody.

Reporting Structure

The LPN will report directly to the designated franchise owner/manager and client supervisors.

Educational Requirements

Completion of an accredited nursing program, meeting the standards for either Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse as stipulated by contractual obligations.

Licensure Requirements

Possession of a valid and unrestricted nursing license in the relevant state.

Experience Requirements

A minimum of one year of practical nursing experience is required.

Credentialing Requirements

  • Background checks as mandated by the contract.
  • Screening through OIG, SAM, OFAC, and NSO.
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association at the BLS level.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination.
  • Initial tuberculosis screening, with possible two-step testing as required.
  • Drug testing as per contract stipulations.
  • Additional credentials as specified by the contract.

Work Environment

  • Correctional facility setting.
  • Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other infectious materials.
  • Physical demands may include reading medical instruments and documentation, as well as transporting medical supplies.
  • A physical examination may be required by certain states or clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to ATC Healthcare Services policies and procedures.
  • Follow client-specific policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports.
  • Conduct nursing assessments for inmates.
  • Refer patients for medical evaluations as necessary.
  • Administer medications and monitor adherence to treatment plans.
  • Support the use of FDA-approved medications for opiate use disorder.
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms, utilizing electronic health records.
  • Ensure confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Provide care with respect for cultural diversity and individual rights.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
