Job Overview

PQ, a leading global provider of silicates and derivative products, is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to join its team. This role is based in a chemical manufacturing plant that operates 24/7.

The Role

This position involves process engineering design, commissioning, and improvements for sodium silicate processes at the Augusta site. The individual will serve as project manager for some process-related capital projects, reporting administratively to the Plant Manager but initially to the Project Manager responsible for the new sodium silicate furnace and glass dissolving operations.

Qualifications
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minimum 5 years of experience in process engineering or a similar role; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • A strong foundation in engineering principles, including chemical processes, materials science, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams); Visio, SAP, or AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Development and field verification of PFDs, P&IDs, equipment layouts, equipment lists, and datasheets.
  • Familiarity with various processing industry equipment, including pumps, heat exchangers, reactors, filtration, flow measurement, conveyors, mills, and bulk solid/powder material transfer equipment.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, including data analysis and statistical methods to understand process variations and optimize performance.
  • Experience with commissioning/startup of new process systems, including training others.
  • Familiarity with OSHA's process safety management regulations, including PHAs, management of change, mechanical integrity, and relief valve sizing.
Work Environment

This role involves working in a mix of operating plants, construction sites, laboratories, and offices. The work environment typically operates 24/7. Travel is expected to be less than 15%. Customary work hours are from 7 am to 4 pm or as needed to achieve business objectives.

EHS Responsibilities
  • Communicating and promoting Safety/Health as the top priority.
  • Participating in risk assessment audits.
  • Understanding PQ Principles and how they are implemented in the site organization, rules, and procedures.
  • Completing HSE training requirements in a timely manner.

Estimated Salary: $85,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
