Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Specialty Coordinator to join our team at Nuvance Health. This role is responsible for educating, training, and mentoring members in the OR specialty area, collaborating with Surgical Services leadership to create and integrate best practices and evidence-based knowledge for the service(s).

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with physicians to promote specialty development, cost-effective care, and overall service growth plans.
  • Identify, plan, and assist in the implementation and evaluation of performance improvement strategies.
  • Communicate with scheduling, sterile processing, materials management, and OR leadership to determine needs for scheduled procedures.
  • Manage supply costs, develop custom packs and trays, manage equipment, and standardize to control inventory.
  • Assess specialty needs for capital budget.
  • Supervise the work of others and provide direction on the care to surgical patients, with attention to the specialty patient population.
  • Accountable for the daily coordination of patient flow and care delivery, critical thinking, and delegating appropriate work to improve the specialty care.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the interpretation and implementation of policies, procedures, practice, and regulatory standards related to promoting a culture of safety and a healing environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Acting as a Care Delivery clinical resource, maintain and demonstrate an appropriate degree of expertise and proficiency utilizing independent judgment for managing and solving problems related to the specialty service line.
Requirements
  • State of CT RN license.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Minimum of one year of RN OR experience or recent completion of Periop 101.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or current enrollment in a BSN program and a minimum of 3 years job-related experience.
  • RN - 2 years of OR experience, or CST - 3 years OR experience.
Working Conditions

This role requires significant manual skills/motor coordination and finger dexterity, as well as significant occupational risk. The physical effort required is very heavy, with the ability to exert up to 50 lbs. force. The physical environment is significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
