Job Summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food Pantry Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our Food Services department, you will play a vital role in coordinating the distribution of food pantry services to the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate food service activities with the Food Services Coordinator to ensure efficient operations.
  • Document and distribute emergency food bags for non-registered clients, maintaining accurate records and data entry into the electronic system and SIMS database.
  • Operate and maintain the food pantry, providing crisis assistance with grocery items to those in need, and ensuring the front desk is presentable with up-to-date flyers.
  • Receive and document GIK donations delivered to the warehouse, coordinating activities with warehouse personnel to create efficient operations.
  • Assist with daily unloading, shelving, stocking, and storing of food donations and deliveries as needed for the food pantry.
  • Communicate with the Food Service/Pantry Coordinator on items/supplies needed, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Work with the Food Services Coordinator to provide guidance to volunteers on general kitchen/warehouse needs throughout each day.
  • Adhere to Health Department policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and maintaining certification in The Salvation Army's 'Safe from Harm' program.
  • Complete CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogens Training, and perform other duties as assigned related to Warehouse and Food Services program.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others as a team member, maintaining a positive attitude and composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage people and projects successfully, with a strong interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check.
Physical Demands/Work Environment

This Position is required to do basic business and office work in a warehouse setting. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit and use hands. Individual must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings. There is low to moderate noise level for this position.
