Key Responsibilities- Assist in the daily care of laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, and cleaning of enclosures.
- Monitor animal room environments, including temperature, humidity, and lighting, and report any abnormalities to the appropriate personnel.
- Operate equipment such as cage washers, autoclaves, and automatic water bottle fillers and bedding dispensers.
- Provide care for animals that are immuno-compromised, have known or unknown pathogens, or are designated as biohazardous.
- Responsible for reading, comprehending, and following standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to biohazardous agents used in the Vivarium.
- Observe and recognize obvious symptoms of abnormalities in laboratory animals and report them to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with the receipt and inspection of delivered animals, as well as daily barcoding of animal cage cards for billing and census purposes.
- Assist with animal restraint and treatments under the direct supervision of clinical staff.
- Operate department vehicles as required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1 year of experience in animal care or a related field preferred.
- Assistant Laboratory Animal Tech (ALAT) certification preferred.
