Position Overview:

We are currently looking for a Senior Electrical Substation Design Engineer to join our Power Division. This role allows for remote work while collaborating with teams across North America. Tetra Tech provides the option of accessing a local office if necessary. The qualifications listed below reflect the skills and abilities required for this position. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and allocate tasks, provide guidance on technical issues, and evaluate work for precision and sufficiency.
  • Review and create technical documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Draft proposal documents and cost estimates based on client requests.
  • Develop, validate, and coordinate project timelines to meet cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
  • Foster effective working relationships with colleagues and clients to discuss design challenges and clarify specifications.
  • Maintain client relationships to provide or obtain technical information pertinent to ongoing projects.
  • Analyze design challenges, organize research, and establish specific design criteria.
  • Commit to project timelines, resource allocation, and staffing requirements to achieve project goals.
  • Possess knowledge across related engineering disciplines.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in the analysis, technical knowledge, and design of electrical distribution systems and industrial controls, particularly in utility substations.
  • Expertise in designing medium and high voltage power distribution and transmission systems, including load flow, short circuit, and grounding studies, as well as transformer and cable sizing.
  • Proficient in preparing layouts, elevation views, installation details, grounding, lighting, cable trays, and conduit layout drawings.
  • Exceptional communication skills for client relations, team collaboration, and proposal/report writing.
  • Experience in drafting technical specifications for electrical equipment and evaluating vendor proposals.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy facility design, including solar and wind projects.
  • Experience with HVDC projects.
  • Familiarity with 3D design software for project execution.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada or the United States.
