About the Position

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Team at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. As a Clinical Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive and complex nursing care to clinic patients utilizing evidence-based approaches and clinical practice guidelines.
  • Collaborate and integrate with members of the clinic team and other departments to achieve optimal care and health outcomes for patients.
  • Identify clinical and administrative complications and utilize problem-solving techniques to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Perform invasive procedures such as venipuncture, administration of intravenous fluids, medications, diagnostic and therapeutic agents, blood products, and pulmonary ventilation.
  • Initiate and maintain medical history on patients, record observations, and stated symptoms for use by clinicians.
  • Identify new clinical and management requirements for the clinic and take effective action to ensure necessary changes and adaptations are implemented.
  • Provide and participate in continuing education and training as appropriate for all levels of ancillary team staff and other nurses within assigned medical settings.
  • Partner with the clinic manager and/or other clinic leadership to identify and address clinically related or process issues or concerns as appropriate.
Requirements
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing.
  • Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 25 pounds is required.
  • Immunization screening is required.
  • Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
  • Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
Qualifications
  • US Citizens.
  • Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
  • Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes providing nursing care to a variety of patients, coordinating patient care, and providing patient or staff education.
