Position Overview

ROLE SUMMARY

The City of Piedmont is in search of dedicated individuals to serve as coaches for our Youth and Middle School Athletic programs. This role encompasses not only coaching responsibilities but also the vital task of fostering character development among student athletes. Coaches will guide participants to cultivate a deep appreciation for discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Our coaching staff is expected to align with the mission and values of the City of Piedmont, ensuring respectful and constructive interactions with athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents, and community members.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

For Rec Leader I - Candidates should have completed at least the 11th grade and possess some experience in childcare or recreational settings. Applicants must be 17 years of age or older.

For Rec Leader II - A High School diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of 2 years of experience in childcare or recreation.

For Rec Specialist - Candidates should have completed 2 years of college, with specialized experience in a specific program area.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Illustrative Only)

1. Uphold and adhere to the policies and mission of the City of Piedmont's Recreation Department.

2. Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of athletic programs for youth and middle school participants.

3. Collaborate with the Sports Coordinator to conduct skill assessments for team placements.

4. Instruct and demonstrate essential skills and techniques for both individual and team development, preparing athletes for higher levels of competition.

5. Facilitate various clinics throughout the year, including pre-season and holiday break sessions.

6. Clearly communicate and enforce team rules and regulations regarding athlete conduct and eligibility.

7. Work with the Sports Coordinator to schedule camps, practices, parent meetings, and other seasonal events.

8. Attend informational meetings for parents at the start of each season.

9. Create a safe and supportive environment conducive to the physical, social, and emotional growth of student athletes.

10. Model exemplary sportsmanship and maintain respectful conduct towards all participants, officials, and spectators.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Participate in staff development meetings, training sessions, and other professional activities aimed at enhancing coaching effectiveness. Perform any other related tasks as assigned by the Sports Coordinator or other designated administrators.


SUPERVISION

Reports to the Sports Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to work in a sports facility environment and operate necessary equipment. Physical strength is required to lift and carry recreational equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. The role may involve significant standing, walking, and engaging in physical activities. Visual and auditory acuity is necessary for effective communication and performance of job duties.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees will work in a sports facility with varying noise levels and controlled temperature conditions. Interaction with diverse community members is expected, requiring patience, maturity, and strong organizational skills. A positive coaching philosophy and excellent communication abilities are essential.


WORK SCHEDULE

Hours will vary between 10-20 hours per week, primarily scheduled Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Weekend work may be required for special events, trainings, and meetings.


COMPENSATION

Rec Leader I - $16 - $18 per hour

Rec Leader II - $18 - $22 per hour

Rec Specialist - $16 - $30 per hour, based on qualifications and experience

This is a part-time, temporary position.


BENEFITS

This position does not offer benefits, but sick leave will accrue based on hours worked.
