Position Overview:

  • Oversee wine pairings and suggest wines by the glass to enhance guest experiences.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and presentation of stemware prior to service.
  • Communicate inventory requirements for stemware on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain and update wine lists while ensuring their cleanliness.
  • Restock wine fridges nightly while managing open bottles effectively.
  • Complete nightly closing tasks as per checklist.
  • Safeguard all wine and beverage products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation and side work as assigned to support dinner service.
  • Serve wine pairings for prix fixe menus promptly.
  • Provide concise explanations of wine pairings to guests.
  • Maintain the aesthetic appeal of the assigned station and guest areas.
  • Stay focused and present during service operations.
  • Fulfill closing duties as designated.
  • Assist in receiving and storing wine products appropriately.
  • Ensure the ongoing security of all wine assets.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a sommelier in a high-end dining environment.
  • Experience managing a large wine cellar with over 1000 selections.
  • Proven ability to train and mentor staff effectively.
  • Introductory or Certified level with W.S.E.T./C.M.S.
  • Familiarity with large wine selections or Wine Spectator Grand Award cellars.
  • Basic understanding of wine business operations, including purchasing and asset protection.
  • Knowledge of major wine regions and producers.

Desirable:

  • Certified or Advanced standing with W.S.E.T./C.M.S.
  • Experience visiting vineyards and producers in key wine regions.
  • Familiarity with Michelin-rated and fine dining establishments.

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to connect with guests and recommend wines.
  • In-depth knowledge of global wine regions.

Work Schedule:

  • This position typically requires working 5 days a week, with Monday and Tuesday as standard days off.
  • Schedule may be adjusted based on operational needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work on the dining room floor for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift up to 40 lbs repeatedly.
  • Ability to transport heavy items to storage areas.
  • Willingness to stand and walk for long durations.
