Position Overview
Position Title: Instructor
Salary Range: The academic salary scales establish the minimum compensation at appointment. The current full-time salary range for these roles is $66,259 - $186,446.
Percent Time: Typically part-time; %
Anticipated Start: July 1, 2024 or later
Review Timeline: Applications will be assessed as openings become available. Fall semester appointments are generally reviewed in January, while spring semester reviews occur in July. Interested candidates after the final deadline must submit a new application.
Position Duration: Positions may be for one semester or for the entire academic year, with potential for renewal based on necessity, funding, and performance.

Position Description
Berkeley Law is forming a pool of qualified educators to instruct courses in our Legal Studies program as opportunities arise.
Legal Studies is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major that explores the meanings, values, practices, and institutions of law and legality. The faculty of Berkeley Law's Jurisprudence and Social Policy Program (JSP) holds primary responsibility for the Legal Studies program at UC Berkeley. JSP faculty and other Law faculty deliver a curriculum that investigates how law influences, and is influenced by, political, economic, and cultural dynamics. The major aims to foster critical understanding and inquiry regarding the theoretical frameworks, historical contexts, and cultural embeddedness of law.
General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties encompass holding office hours, grading, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and managing a course website.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications (required at time of application)
J.D. degree or equivalent international degree, or Ph.D. degree or enrollment in a Ph.D. program (or international equivalent) at the time of application.
Additional Qualifications (required at time of start)
J.D., Ph.D., or equivalent international degree is required by start date. Experience teaching at the postsecondary level is required by start date.
Preferred Qualifications
Outstanding student evaluations as the primary instructor of an undergraduate course at an accredited university. Expertise in one or more areas of the legal studies curriculum (I. Crime, Law and Social Control; II. Law and Culture; III. Law and Markets; IV. Law, Rights, and Social Change; V. Law and Sovereignty).
