Medication Administration Specialist

- Preferred: CNA certification or prior experience in elderly care within a residential or long-term care environment.
- Possession of a current CNA license or the ability to obtain one as mandated by state regulations.
- Capability to measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, and O2 saturation, or willingness to learn.
- Familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
- A passion for working with seniors is essential.
- Ability to build effective relationships with residents, their families, and team members.
- Proficient in reading, comprehending, writing, and speaking English for effective communication with residents, families, visitors, and colleagues.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Ability to represent the community positively and professionally.
- Compliance with all health-related requirements as per state licensure.
- Maintenance of current CPR/First Aid certifications.
- Maintenance of current Food Handlers certifications.
- Completion of annual Continuing Education Credits.
- Capability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Successful completion of the required Medication Technician training program.
- Subject to pre-employment screenings, including physical, drug, TB testing, and background checks.
- Administer medications accurately and promptly, adhering to regulations, physician orders, and community Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure medications are logged, stored centrally, maintained appropriately, and that refills are ordered timely to guarantee availability for residents.
- Familiarity with and adherence to all medication-related policies and procedures, including documentation and accountability.
- Conduct monthly audits, including label checks, expiration checks, and start date checks.
- Timely notification to supervisors regarding any concerns or issues with orders/MARs.
- Assist Licensed Nurse with printing MARs and reviewing as necessary.
- Update MARs in the system with new orders/changes in the absence of the Licensed Nurse.
- Collaborate with pharmacies and doctors' offices to obtain accurate orders and refills.
- Document objective observations in residents' notes daily.
- Provide basic first aid as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized medication room.
- Review and comprehend all individual service plans for residents.
- Assist residents with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, transferring, and ambulation as outlined in their service plans.
- Engage residents in meaningful conversations and social interactions while providing medication supervision and personal care.
- Monitor residents for changes in their physical, emotional, mental, and social conditions, reporting any unusual symptoms or incidents promptly to a licensed nurse or supervisor.
- Communicate with the Resident Care Team regarding changes in residents' conditions and contact families as necessary.
- Complete all required documentation, including incident reports and communication logs for shifts and licensed nurses.
- Assist with resident meals in the dining area, ensuring proper serving techniques and presentation.
- Encourage resident participation in scheduled activities and outings, providing assistance as needed.
- Provide postmortem care for residents who pass away in the community under hospice care.
- Serve as a role model for team members to ensure high-quality care and monitoring of residents.
- Make resident beds, empty trash, and tidy resident apartments daily or as requested.
- Turn down resident beds in the evening upon request.
- Change resident linens and towels according to the community's laundry schedule and as needed.
- Maintain resident clothing and closets in an orderly fashion.
- Assist with resident laundry as necessary.
- Notify housekeeping staff of spills and soiled areas; assist with clean-up as needed.
- Assist in cleaning resident equipment, such as walkers and wheelchairs, as required.
- Perform other housekeeping tasks as assigned.
- Attend all mandatory team meetings and training sessions.
- Answer phones promptly and courteously as needed.
- Uphold Residents' Rights as defined by state regulations and company policy at all times.
- Support and adhere to all company policies and service philosophy.
- Follow the company dress code while on duty.
- Demonstrate reliable and predictable attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Availability to work full-time or part-time as agreed upon, including weekend and holiday shifts.
