The School Nurse is a critical member of the KIPP Public Schools team, responsible for providing comprehensive health services to facilitate students' optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:- Health Program Development: Collaborate with other agencies to design and implement a school health program that meets the needs of students and staff.
- First Aid and Medical Services: Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services as needed, ensuring the health and well-being of students and staff.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records of student health services, including immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data.
- Health Education and Counseling: Serve as a resource person on health issues for students and staff, providing professional development on health-related topics and conducting health appraisals for students and staff.
- Communication and Collaboration: Correspond with parents on the health needs of children, negotiate professional and medical services essential to the school health program, and work with staff and administration to support a healthy school environment.
- Screenings and Evaluations: Conduct vision, hearing, and growth screenings, and provide follow-up evaluations as required, ensuring students have up-to-date immunization records and necessary health documentation.
- IEP and Health Plan Development: Participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and create Emergency and Individual Health Plans for students with special needs.
- Health Resource Management: Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care for students, maintain and evaluate cumulative health data, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
- Licensure and Certification: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Louisiana, with a minimum of 2 years of RN experience.
- Education and Experience: School Nurse experience preferred, with experience working with children and complex diagnoses.
- Professional Development: Certified in First Aid and CPR, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in school health.
