KIPP New Orleans Schools is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered School Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our school community, the School Nurse will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our students.
Job Summary:The School Nurse will provide preventative health services, evaluate physical conditions, and refer students to appropriate resources as needed. This role requires a strong commitment to student-centered care, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and parents.
Responsibilities:- Collaborate with school staff to design and implement a comprehensive school health program.
- Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services as needed.
- Disseminate health-related information and procedures to students, staff, and parents.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of student health records.
- Serve as a resource person on health issues for students, staff, and parents.
- Provide professional development on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers.
- Screen and conduct health appraisals for students and staff.
- Provide follow-up evaluations and recommendations for students as needed.
- Correspond with parents on student health needs.
- Record immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data.
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies related to school health programs.
- Prepare health reports for supervisors, the board of education, and health departments as mandated.
- Negotiate professional and medical services essential to the school health program.
- Initiate health program changes as needed.
- Work collaboratively with staff and administration to support a healthy school environment.
- Create and deliver health education sessions for students, parents, and staff.
- Ensure students have up-to-date immunization records and required health screenings.
- Coordinate school and community health activities and serve as a liaison between the home, school, and community.
- Create individual health plans for students with special needs.
- Participate in IEP plan development and meetings as needed.
- Obtain and review student health histories, provide health assessments, and maintain cumulative health data.
- Screen and evaluate findings of deficits in vision, hearing, growth, and other areas.
- Provide ongoing health counseling and support to students, parents, and staff.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Louisiana.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Experience working in a school setting or with children is preferred.
- Experience working with complex diagnoses and medical conditions is preferred.
- Certified in First Aid and CPR.
- Successful completion of a State and Federal Criminal Background Check.
