Highway Maintenance Assistant

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Highway Technician Assistant I. This position involves assisting in the maintenance and repair of highways, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and vehicles
- Perform tasks such as hauling materials, installing and repairing bridges and joints, and operating mowing machines
- Assist with basic surveying activities on construction projects
- Flag for operations requiring traffic control
- High school graduate
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Within 12 months of employment, must furnish documentation of a valid Class B commercial driver's license
- Must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent
Incumbents in this role will typically work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. They will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction.
Probationary PeriodThis job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS.
