Operating Room Assistant

The Detroit Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Room Assistant to join our team. This role will be based in Detroit, Michigan.
About the JobThis position offers a competitive salary of approximately $55,000 per year, depending on experience. The Operating Room Assistant will work under the direction of Charge Nurses (RNs) and OR staff to provide direct and indirect patient care in the Perioperative setting.
Responsibilities- Perform terminal cleaning of the operating room and prepare rooms for new patients.
- Clean and re-make patient stretchers and beds, and responsible for assigned areas for restocking and cleanliness.
- Participate in OR suite turnovers between cases.
- Deliver specimens, labs, blood, to and from OR.
- Transport patients as directed by a nurse.
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required per policy.
- All duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- BLS certification.
- Good analytical and observational problem-solving skills.
- Mathematical ability to perform calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies used in the work environment.
- A high level of interpersonal and verbal skill and teamwork commitment to effectively function as a team member in support of all services delivered on the patient unit and to effectively communicate with patients, their families, and other hospital personnel to address customer needs.
- Good reading, writing, and comprehension skills to understand, effectively communicate, and contribute to procedures, processes, orders, methods, and standards.
- Physical ability to regularly (80-90% of work time) walk and stand; lift soiled linens and move equipment as necessary; assist patients in repositioning, bed to stretcher transferring, basic activities of daily living, and maintenance locomotion requiring lifting (very heavy 60+ pounds), bending, pulling, pushing, standing, and walking.
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity.
- Ability to perform routine clerical functions such as answering telephones, taking messages, and basic retrieval of computer information.
- Demonstrates willingness to make a meaningful contribution to the work environment as evidenced through behavior and attitude.
