POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Nursing (DON) is accountable to the Director of Administrative Services and is responsible for delivering nursing care tailored to the unique needs of clients at Hope Housing Of Miami Inc. This role encompasses both dependent and independent nursing functions, adhering to established nursing techniques, procedures, and standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Apply nursing expertise to ensure the safe delivery of preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care, as evidenced by positive client outcomes.
  • Execute independent nursing functions following established protocols, as monitored by the registered nurse.
  • Assist in gathering data for the Admission Data Record.
  • Contribute to the formulation of Individualized Habilitation Plans (IHP) based on identified client needs.
  • Accurately implement physician orders, both directly and indirectly.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions concerning client needs.
  • Document relevant observations and interventions in the appropriate records.
  • Carry out specific tasks related to client care and their environment safely.
  • Administer medications accurately, monitoring client responses as documented in medical records.
  • Facilitate communication among clients, families, staff, and physicians, ensuring effective information exchange.
  • Review shift change reports for pertinent information regarding assigned clients.
  • Effectively communicate changes in client needs and IHPs among team members.
  • Report client needs and observations regarding their condition to the physician.
  • Provide health education to clients and significant others as delegated by the RN.
  • Utilize appropriate teaching methods, including one-on-one instruction and group discussions.
  • Document health education provided, including client responses and understanding.
  • Participate in staff development initiatives as evidenced by educational records.
  • Attend scheduled team meetings and remain informed about discussions.
  • Ensure staff training is adequate for their roles, including clinical skills and safety protocols.

DIRECTOR OF NURSING DUTIES:

  • May access all medication supplies within the facility.
  • Authorize the return of staff showing signs of communicable diseases.
  • Review incidents affecting client health and safety.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Committee.
  • Assist in medication management, including destruction with the pharmacist.
  • Collaborate in developing policies for medication administration and safety.
  • Act as the infection preventionist.
  • Supervise nursing staff.
